About Wrangler Unlimited Style
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is just plain fun to drive, as it is supposed to be! It can also scale about any rough and rocky hill you can point to on a map. If you are an off-roader and need an SUV like that, then a used Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is the one you need. It boasts a rough-and-tough heritage that no other vehicle can even touch (that proud name harkens all the way back to WWII) and it offers the legendary capability off the road that made the Jeep moniker a legend.
At the Start of the Decade
Even right off the lot, a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited from early in the '00s is an icon for off-roading. Its Spartan appearance and army-like utility have evolved into a practical (and quite popular) way to get around, whether that getting around is in the city or out in the desert hills in the Arizona region. It practically begs you to search out the roughest terrain you can find just to conquer it, while still being quite useful for those days when you just need get some groceries. Don't forget the fact that it is also a fun-in-the-sun convertible! The Unlimited has a beefy 4.0L inline-six that can be mated with either a 3-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. (The manual is more fun!) The highest-level trim, the Sahara, also gets that husky 4.0L and adds a bit of cushy leather to the steering wheel, storage that locks (handy when the top is off), front/rear tow hooks and some convenient cup holders, too. The Quadra-Coil suspension gives you extra inches of vertical wheel movement beyond the out-dated leaf spring arrangement, which makes your available approach angle much steeper. If you a real off-road enthusiast and take your off-road adventures seriously, there is any number of aftermarket parts to add to your Wrangler that will get you farther out into the fun.
In the Middle of the Decade
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you find in the Phoenix area has a full-sized console, lights in the foot-well, cloth upholstery, A/C for cooling off in the heat, tow hooks, full doors with windows that roll up and down, fog lights, a 7-speaker sound system and four doors sitting on its longer wheelbase. The Rubicon trims get serious off-road amenities like front/rear locking differentials, 16" wheels with 31" off-road tires, heavy-duty axles and a 4-1 low-speed transfer case. Options for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited include a hard top (with full doors, a defroster and a window wiper for the rear), and the Golden Eagle package that includes a Dana 44 heavy-use axle (rear), 30" tires, unique gold 15" Ravine alloys, decals on the outside and upgraded two-tone cloth upholstery.
The Unlimited gets a 4.0L inline-six that is good for 190 hp and 235 pound-feet of torque. Transmission options include the standard 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
