The 2012 Ram 2500 for sale in Phoenix only has a couple of real rivals in the segment, but it shouldn't worry because it has offers things they can't. Even for a huge pickup, the Ram 2500 has a smooth and quiet ride, thanks to its hydraulic frame-to-cab mounts, low wind/road noise intrusion to the cabin and a forgiving suspension. The cab is also nicely designed with high-quality materials and special features you would expect to find in a luxury car. As for power, this truck has all you need. The 5.7L V8 (383 hp/400 lb-ft) is enough to get any job done, but if you want more there is also a 6.7L Cummins turbo-diesel that, when combined with an automatic transmission, cranks out 350 hp/800 lb-ft. These power trains are how the Ram 2500 has earned its HD (heavy-duty) badge. That said, its few rivals might be on a par with this truck in the area of power, or at least close to it, but they lack something only the Ram 2500 has -- that masculine ruggedness and distinctive design that say "Ram".
A new or used 2012 Ram 2500 offers the best interior design among all current truck models. The designers utilized high-quality materials in the cab that are pleasing to look at and to touch, the decorative stitching and metallic accents seem almost too deluxe for a working truck and the level of comfort in the seating is almost too good to be true. The clever storage in the cab provides places to put all of your stuff and there is even built-in storage in the bed that locks to secure your tools and such. Control arrays are easy to reach, easy to use and attractively accented.
Trims and Options Packages
A new or pre-owned Ram 2500 you can find in AZ comes with three styles of cab and two bed sizes. The regular cab is only available with the long bed, the crew is available with either size and, while the Mega Cab is mounted to the same platform as the long bed crew, it has a longer cabin and a short bed.
The Mega Cab is available in the SLT trim, the Laramie trim and the Laramie Longhorn trims. The Crew Cab is available in the ST trim, the SLT level, the Laramie trim, the Laramie Longhorn level and the Power Wagon trim, too. The regular cab is available only in the ST and SLT levels of trim.
The ST trim level is the most Spartan of the line. It has 17" steel wheels, vinyl upholstery/flooring, air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, an audio jack, black bumpers/grille, a 40/20/40-split bench seat in the front, an electronic vehicle information display and a 6-speaker CD sound system. Crew Cabs get power locks and windows, and on regular cab models, these are manually controlled.
The next trim up, the SLT, has chrome trim on the exterior, electronic trailer brake control, a rear window that slides, power accessories, cruise control, chrome-clad wheels, keyless entry, heated/power-folding outside mirrors, cloth upholstery and satellite radio. Mega and Crew cabs can get the Big Horn Group (in Texas, it is the Lone Star). This group adds a chrome grille, bright quad headlights, an auto-dim rearview, fog lights, audio controls on the steering wheel (leather wrapped), special badging and a universal garage door controller.
For the SLT, there is the Outdoorsman group that includes the diesel motor, tow hooks, two-tone paint, the grille the same color as the body, remote ignition, a console overhead, lighted vanity mirrors, audio controls on the steering wheel (leather covered) and a limited-slip rear differential. It also has polished alloys, wheel flares, fog lights, auto-dim mirrors, a 115V power outlet and powered front seats (6-way passenger, 10-way driver -- both with power lumbar).
For off-roaders, Ram has a package for you! The Power Wagon (4WD short-bed Crew/V8 only) has tow hooks, all-terrain tires, a 4.56 axle ration w/ electronic-lock differentials, an anti-roll bar in the front (electronic disconnect to expand wheel movement range), fog lights, Bluetooth, skid plates, a manual transfer case, a 12,000 lb-rated power winch, rooftop running lights and quad headlights. The Power Wagon can be had in three levels of sub-trim -- Laramie, SLT and ST (with the features of those trims).
The high-level and very deluxe Laramie has polished alloys, leather upholstery, memory functions on the powered driver's seat, auto-dim mirrors, audio controls on the steering wheel (covered in leather), Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, front seats that are heated, power-adjustable pedals, convenient sensors in the rear to help with parking and a 9-speaker audio system (with iPod integration, surround-sound and digital music storage). The Longhorn trim for the Laramie model also includes color-keyed bumpers, rear park assist w/rearview camera, front seats with ventilation, remote ignition, bucket seats (with a console) and navigation.
Stand-alone options (for all models) include a spray-in bed liner and many of the features from the upper trims available optionally on the lower trims. Other noteworthy options include a sunroof, the “RamBox” system (bedside locking storage/adjustable divider/tie-downs), an entertainment system for the back seat and audio system upgrades.
Power and Performance
The 2012 Ram 2500 comes in RWD (rear-wheel-drive) or 4WD (four-wheel-drive, electronic on the upper trims, mechanical on the lower trim). The 2WD has rack-and-pinion steering and the 4WD has a re-circulating-ball steering arrangement and a solid front axle. The standard engine is a 5.7L V8 (350 horses) paired to an automatic transmission with six speeds. The optional engine is a 6.7L Cummins inline-6 turbo-diesel (350 horses) paired with either a manual transmission with six speeds or an automatic transmission with six speeds. The diesel had a Jake brake (exhaust brake) that provides extra braking power and stability for pulling very heavy loads. Tow ratings according to the powertrain used. They are, with the gas engine, 14,000 lbs, with the diesel/manual, 13,400 and with the diesel/automatic, 15,500 lbs.
